Hearth & Home With Flourish Thinlits

Linda Vich Creates: Hearth & Home With Flourish Thinlits. Brick wall backdrop for this window scene, complete with curtains and window box.
Today I am revisiting the brick wall that I created in my Pop of Paradise For My Daughter post from the other day.

If you remember, the first brick background I created for my card was in the wrong orientation! Today I make use of that background for a horizontal oriented card.
I chose to add a window to my brick wall background to create a somewhat realistic scene for my card.

The Hearth & Home Thinlits were used to die cut three windows from Basic Black and three window boxes from Melon Mambo card stock. I used liquid glue to stack these, one upon the other, for added strength. For the window box, I scored a line at the top before gluing on the last die cut to give the box a bit of dimension.

Because I really wanted the window box to "pop", I inked it up with Versamark and heat embossed it with Clear Stampin' Emboss Powder twice to give it a really glassy finish.

To create the drapes for the window, I cut two lengths of the now retired White Jute Ribbon and glued them to the back of the window frame. I added curtain pulls with some of the now retired Melon Mambo 1/8" ribbon.

A small piece of Smoky Slate card stock was cut to act as the inside of the house. It was glued into place on the brick matte and then the window frame was adhered over it using Foam Adhesive Strips. At this point the card front was adhered to a Basic Black card base using Dimensionals.

I used the retired Bird Builder Punch to punch some leaves from Basic Gray card stock. Flowers were punched from Smoky Slate, Whisper White and Melon Mambo using punches from both the Itty Bitty Accents and Itty Bitty Shapes punch packs, unfortunately both retired! The flowers were shaped using my McGill Paper Blossom Tool Kit. Some rhinestones were colored with a Sharpie and then they were inserted into the flowers.

Leaves were adhered onto the bottom of the window frame using liquid glue and then the window box was adhered into place using triple Dimensionals to achieve the proper height to fit over the window frame. The flowers were adhered using the Fine Tip Glue Pen.

The sentiment from the Picture Perfect stamp set was stamped on Melon Mambo with Basic Black Archival Ink and then the sentiment was punched with the now retired Washi Label Punch. The strip was adhered to the card front using Dimensionals.

Smoky Slate and Basic Gray leaves were die cut with the Flourish Thinlits and then adhered to the card front with liquid glue.

A Whisper White matte was stamped with the spray of flowers from the Flourishing Phrases stamp set using Melon Mambo and then the matte was adhered with Fast Fuse Adhesive to complete the card.

I am delighted with how this card turned out! What is really pleasing is that I was able to use both of the brick backgrounds I originally created but in two very different ways!

Have you tried creating an inked and embossed brick background yet? It is really fun and you can use any inks you need to match your project!

Vellum Overlay For Stamp, Ink, Paper

Linda Vich Creates: Vellum Overlay For Stamp, Ink, and Paper. The Rose Wonder stamp is heat embossed in white on the outer vellum card, perfectly outlining the same stamped and colored image on the inner card below it. Wink of Stella, rhinestones and a Soft Sky bow are the finishing touches to this glamourous card!
It was opportune that Jennifer McGuire's post showed up in my Inbox this morning. Her video depicting how she created several stunning cards using a vellum overlay technique really grabbed my attention! I decided to attempt the technique for the color challenge over at Stamp, Ink and Paper.

SIP 42 Color Challenge 800

I really like these colors–at least two of them! I think that Bermuda Bay really looks stunning with the Night of Navy. Soft Sky is not my favorite because it is so pale but I was able to include it on my card by using a ribbon.

I decided to use the Rose Wonder stamp set for this technique because I knew that it would look wonderful on the vellum, but for the inner card, I decided to use the Floating Reinker Technique.

I chose a piece of very light watercolor paper (non-Stampin Up) and cut it to a standard card size. The rose image was stamped in Versamark and heat embossed with White Stampin' Emboss Powder.

Instead of spraying the image with water as is done in most of the tutorials (they were using Shimmery White paper) I decided to add water with a paintbrush. That way, if I needed to re-wet any sections of the image, I could do so easily.

After wetting the image, I used my Aqua Painter to pick up a little bit of Night of Navy and dabbed it into the various sections of the rose. As soon as the ink touched the water on the rose, it "floated" into the embossed section it had been added to; it didn't float evenly, though, so a nice mottled effect was the result. I repeated this procedure for each section of the rose and then switched to Bermuda Bay reinker for the leaves.

I set the painted image aside to dry, and worked on other things for awhile. Then, I touched up the image with my heat tool to be sure it was totally dry. The paper had warped slightly so I touched it up by ironing it, between scrap paper and covered with an old pillowslip, using a low temperature.

Next, after determining the size of vellum for my outer card, I cut, scored, and folded it. I placed the inner card into place and set it into my MISTI. There I placed the rose stamp over the vellum, lining it up with the image showing through from beneath. I stamped it in Versamark and heat embossed it with White Stampin' Emboss powder.

While I had my MISTI out, I also stamped the sentiment from the Picture Perfect stamp set using Jet Black Stazon ink. I let it dry and then made sure it was using the heat tool. I then colored in the sections using the Wink of Stella pen.

Once that was completely dry, I put the painted card on the inside and attached the two with a length of Soft Sky Seam Binding. The final touch was to add a few rhinestones to the front of the card.

Just A Note Botanicals

Have you ever designed a card and then after it's done you can't decide if you like it or not? That's where I'm at with this card!

I started with the idea of placing the flowers from the Botanical Builder Framelits in a tea cup. I chose a lovely paper from the Birthday Bouquet DSP and die cut my tea cup as well as one from self adhesive fun foam. I stuck the two together. I inked up the cup and the edges of the fun foam with Soft Suede. I used Wink of Stella to give the cup a nice shimmer.

On the flip side of the DSP was a lovely coordinating pattern that I chose for the upper two-thirds of my card. I decided on Mossy Meadow for the bottom and I embossed the lower third of a 4 x 5 1/4" matte using the Woodgrain Embossing Folder. I then adhered the DSP to the top two-thirds and adhered a strip of the 3/8" Stitched Mossy Meadow Ribbon across the join. I adhered this piece to a Soft Suede card base using Dimensionals.

Picking colors from the cup for the flowers–Watermelon Wonder, Pool Party and Mint Macaron as well as Mossy Meadow and Old Olive for the greenery–I die cut them using the Botanical Builder Framelits.

I tried a few designs until I settled on the one that I used. After snapping a photo, I inked the edges of the flowers with their matching inks (except for the Pool Party one where I used Lost Lagoon) and both ferns with Mossy Meadow. I also used my McGill Paper Blossom Tool Kit to shape the flowers and ferns.

I adhered the cup to the card front using Fast Fuse Adhesive, sandwiching the darker fern in place beneath it. I then adhered the remaining flowers and greenery with a combination of Dimensionals, Fine Tip Glue Pen and Glue Dots. I added rhinestones to the flower centres.

Using Soft Suede, I stamped the sentiment from the Picture Perfect Stamp Set on Old Olive card stock. I used the Washi Label Punch on it and inked the edges with Mossy Meadow. I adhered it to the bottom of the card front using Dimensionals to complete the card.

I did not create an inner matte for the card yet because I still haven't decided if this card is a keeper! Can you help me decide by leaving me a comment below?

Stampin' Royalty and Botanicals

>>>>>Update<<<<<

My card was chosen as a Top Pick on Stampin' Royalty #316! Woohoo! Click on the picture below to come and play!

Today I was busy making Valentine stuff which I'll post later this week. Just before picking up Raine, I had surfed over to the Stampin' Royalty blog and was surprised to discover that my Sky Is The Limit Birthday card was one of the picks for the #315 Challenge! That gave me a nice boost so I took a look at the challenge for this week and after supper I was compelled to create a card for it!

As soon as I saw the inspiration photo for the challenge, I thought of Mint Macaron and vellum. I knew that I would use the Botanical Gardens Designer Vellum Stack and lots of gold!

I started by selecting a piece of the vellum that had the flowers from the Botanicals Builder Framelits printed on the vellum. I used the Framelits to die cut some flowers from Mint Macaron and set about placing the die cuts on the vellum to form a pleasing cluster. Once I was happy with it, I added die cut centres from Gold Glimmer Paper and leaves from Gold Foil Paper.

I cut a card base from the Mint Macaron card stock to make a 4.75 x 6" card. I cut the vellum to fit the front of the card. I decided to tie a length of both the Mint Macaron Dotted Ribbon and Gold Sequin Trim down the l ft side of the card. This allowed me to use Snail Adhesive to attach the vellum where the glue wouldn't be seen.

I then shaped each flower with my McGill Paper Blossom Tool Kit set and inked the edges of each with Mint Macaron ink. I glued each centre into its flower using Multi Medium Matte. Before gluing the flowers onto the vellum, I made a thread nest from Gold Metallic Thread and secured it under the edge of the ribbon using a glue dot.

The flowers and leaves were then glued into place. The smallest flowers were adhered with glue dots. A rhinestone, coloured with a Copic marker, was added to each little flower.

The sentiment, from the Picture Perfect Stamp Set was stamped with Tip Top Taupe onto Mint Macaron. Then the sentiment was re-stamped using Gold Encore ink (I used my MISTI, of course!) Using the Tip Top Taupe ink first help d to give the color a bit more depth.

The sentiment was die cut using a die from the Bitty Banners Framelits. The edges were inked with Mint Macaron and then the banner was glued to the card front to complete the card.

Close up details
It felt good to complete this card and have it look even better than I envisioned! I'll be entering this card in the Stampin Royalty Challenge #316.

Picture Perfect Practice

Today I had the opportunity to work with the Picture Perfect Stamp Set. At first glance, it seems that these stamps have no relationship to one another. What ties these stamps together is that they are multi-step stamps; they use at least two different stamps to create a final image.

The set contains some lovely sentiments along with a hummingbird, a rose, leaves, and a starfish. I chose to use the starfish for my card today and I have Lydia Fiedler, from Understand Blue, for the wonderful color scheme!

The stamps in the set are photopolymer so it makes it fairly easy to see how to line the stamps up when using more than one. Each stamp also has a tab at the top which is your reminder to point all the stamps in the same direction. Though these stamps can be used with clear blocks for stamping, I chose to use my MISTI to allow for perfect placement.

The stamps for each image are numbered on the enclosed sheet. Generally, you would start with the number 1 stamp and progress from there, each stamp giving more detail to the final image. Also, the last image stamped is usually stamped in the darkest ink.

I stamped the first stamp using Watermelon Wonder and then completed the image by stamping with Elegant Eggplant. I fussy cut the image and then used a Stampin' Sponge to sponge the edges with Elegant Eggplant to give more of a 3D quality to the image.

I decided to use a 4.75 x 6" card base in Watermelon Wonder. For my next layer, rather than use colored card stock, I used a piece of the Thick Whisper White and chose a stamp from the Timeless Textures Stamp Set to stamp around the matte using Elegant Eggplant. This was adhered to the card base using Dimensionals.

I used a 3.75 x 5" piece of the Thick Whisper White for my last layer, to allow the wonderful stamped edge in Elegant Eggplant to show.

I cut a strip of the Watermelon Wonder 1" Stitched Ribbon and determined its placement with the starfish on top. I then used both Gorgeous Grunge and Timeless Texture stamps to add color to the matte. I also stamped the sentiment in the top right corner, inking my stamp first with Versamark and then Elegant Eggplant and heat embossing with Clear Stampin' Emboss Powder.

I adhered the ribbon using Tear & Tape Adhesive. I added Dimensionals to my starfish and then created a messy circle of Gold Metallic Thread which I secured under the starfish.

For the inside of the card, I stamped around the edge of a Whisper White matte using the wood texture stamp from the Timeless Textures set and adhered the matte using Fast Fuse Adhesive.

To complete the card, I added a few sequins to the card front, adhering them with the Fine Tip Glue Pen.

I love the texture on this card and think that the unusual color scheme works well! Hope you like it!
