My 12 Favorite Projects From 2016
My favorite for January is actually a tie for two images! I absolutely fell in love with the Sky Is The Limit stamp set and knew that I would use it often–it was perfect for masculine cards!
In creating a Valentine for a man, it is sometimes difficult to create a card not full of flowers and frilly hearts! For this card, I felt that the combination of Kraft card stock and black worked well for a masculine Valentine. You can see that I managed to squeeze in a few flowers but they are "masculine" flowers! I also think that the the various textural elements work well for a masculine card.
My favorite for February is one that earned me the Top Picks award for the Stampin' Royalty challenge #316.
Anyone that knows me well knows that I am partial to unusual combinations, whether that be food, colors, textures, etc. For the Global Design Project #025, I was required to use a color combo that I wouldn't have picked for myself. In working with it, I chose to use the Brick Wall embossing folder as an actual wall as a backdrop for a window that showcased a very simple stamp set–Vivid Vases. I was very pleased with my completed card!
My favorite for April also uses the Brick Wall embossing folder but the card it is used on is totally different. This particular card enabled me to take part in an International Blog Hop organized by Kylie Bertucci! I also enjoyed trying a new technique–painting with alcohol in my Aqua Pen and reinkers.
My favorite for this month was the project I designed for the International Blog Hop that I mentioned previously. I utilized my all time favorite color, Blackberry Bliss, and added a lot of textural and glitzy elements to put this gate fold card over the top!
My favorite for this month actually comes from a set of cards I created as a prize for my Catalog Launch Party! The technique that I used was new to me but it was oh such fun! The technique involves using an embossing folder with a large surface, in this case butterflies, and then stamping very lightly several times over the entire embossed image using a a flourish stamp. The stamping is repeated until the ink is totally used up on the stamp and then it is re-inked and stamped again. This technique provides a lot of dimension.
July's favorite card also uses the Brick Wall embossing folder and makes uses of several textural elements to create a truly dimensional card.
My favorite for this month combines both colors and textures and uses a bundle, Thoughtful Branches, that I was very disappointed was available for only a short time.
September's favorite also uses the Thoughtful Branches Bundle as well as a a dots stamp from the Swirly Birds stamp set. It is a fun technique that produces a lot of texture and color.
My favorite for October uses a combination of Kraft card stock and black in a non-traditional sort of Christmas card. I think this card would work well for a masculine card but I know that I would love to receive a card like this one as well!
My November favorite is a card I taught at one of my stamp groups. It uses a lot of textural elements–embossing, die cuts, ribbon–to produce a pleasing Christmas card!
Though my cards for December were few and far between, I do have a favorite. The card was my first use of a new stamp set from the Occasions Catalog, Beautiful You, and also my first play with the new Watercolor Pencils. In addition, I also got to use the Stitched Shapes Framelits which I absolutely love!
I hope that you've enjoyed my review of my favorite stamping projects throughout 2016! I said at the beginning of this post that the end of the year was a time for both reflection and goal setting. The review of my favorite projects takes care of reflection.
I am hoping that you, my blog readers, will help me with goal setting. I would like to know what sorts of techniques and projects you would like to see and read about in the 2017. This will help me to formulate my goals for the coming year! I would appreciate you leavng me a comment below.
I wish each and every one of you a Happy New Year and all the best for 2017!

Catalog Party Prep Part 5
Today brings us to the last day of my 5-part series. If you missed them, be sure to view Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, and Part 4.
For my card set today, I CASEd the stamping on embossed images technique from Patty Bennett. Of all five card sets, I think this one is my favorite because the technique I used is just so much fun to do!
I started by cutting five standard card bases, one from each of the new In Colors–Peekaboo Peach, Flirty Flamingo, Sweet Sugarplum, Emerald Envy and Dapper Denim. I also cut five mattes from Thick Whisper White card stock.
After embossing each matte using the Fluttering Embossing Folder, I inked up the flourish stamp from the First Sight stamp set and proceeded to lightly stamp–so as not to stamp between the embossed bits–on top of the embossed matte, . I stamped several times until I ran out of ink and then re-inked the stamp for more stamping. I continued stamping until I was pleased with the coverage.
What is cool about this technique is that the stamping just goes on the raised butterflies and you get some incredible dimension to the stamping because not all of it is the full-strength color of the ink. In addition, the flourish stamp provides a truly unique pattern. I repeated this technique with all five colors.
I knotted a matching piece of the new ruched ribbon around each stamped matte and then adhered the mattes with Dimensionals.
The label outline from the Rose Wonder stamp set was stamped on Thick Whisper White using ink that matched the color of the card. As well, the sentiment from the Endless Birthday Wishes stamp set was stamped and die cut using the Rose Garden Thinlits. The sentiment label was then adhered with Dimensionals on the top right of the card front.
On a Whisper White matte adhered to the inside of the card, I stamped the flourish stamp again in the bottom left and top right. I then stamped a butterfly from the Papillon Potpourri stamp set on a scrap of Whisper White and punched it with the Elegant Butterfly Punch. I added a coating of Wink of Stella and then adhered the butterfly in the bottom left corner with a glue dot to finish the card.
Don't they look lovely in the In Colors? I hope you will give this technique a try–it should work with any embossing folder with large raised portions such as Brick Wall, Large Polka Dot and possibly the new Petal Burst. If you don't have the First Sight stamp set with the flourish stamp, try another similar stamp that you do have!
Drop me a comment below about your try with this technique–I'd love to hear from you!

Watercolor Markers, Distress Inks, and Easter
For my card today, I incorporated Stampin Up as well as some of my many other crafting supplies! My card actually started as an entry for a "yellow" color challenge but became something else entirely!
I started by creating an ombré effect using my yellow toned distress inks on Watercolor paper. I used squeezed lemonade, mustard seed, scattered straw, fossilized amber, and wild honey but in the end, I had to rework my ombré so the final lineup was mustard seed, fossilized amber, wild honey, rusty hinge, spiced marmalade and ripe persimmon. To give some definition to the edges, I added walnut stain.
Next, I decided to use my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers to color a focal image. I chose to use the Hyacinth from the Helping Me Grow stamp set and stamped it in Basic Black Archival ink on watercolor paper using my MISTI. It is often difficult to get an image stamped perfectly on watercolor paper in one go; the rougher texture of the paper seems to either absorb or deter ink. MISTI to the rescue!
I zapped the image with my heat tool to be sure it was dry before beginning my coloring. I used the following: Lilac, Light Violet, Purple, Mid Green and Olive Green. I just LOVE coloring with these markers because it seems so effortless!
The Big Shot along with a die from the Circles Collection Framelits was used to die cut the colored image as well as a die cut a matte from Old Olive card stock. I used a sponge dauber with Walnut Stain distress ink to give some definition to the edges of both. The colored image was then adhered to the matte with Dimensionals.
I used the Fluttering Embossing Folder to emboss the ombré matte (the only one that would fit since I was making a non-standard card size). I adhered the embossed background to a very thin Elegant Eggplant matte and then attached both to an Old Olive card base. The focal image was adhered to the matte with Dimensionals.
I chose a piece of Whisper White Seam Binding to color with distress inks to match my project. On my craft mat I dabbed wilted violet, dusty concord and seedless preserves. I spritzed them and my ribbon with water and then proceeded to dab my ribbon into the colors until I was satisfied with the results. I kept crinkling the ribbon into a ball in my hands (I wore disposable gloves so my hands would still look like hands when I finished!) and then dried it with my heat tool.
Cutting a small piece off one end of the ribbon, I wrapped the rest around three fingers. I tied it in the middle with the piece I had cut off to form my crinkly bow. I adhered the bow to my card front using Glue Dots.
I stamped my sentiment from the Crazy About You stamp set onto a strip of Basic Black card stock using Versamark and then heat embossed it using White Stampin' Emboss Powder. I used the Banner Triple Punch to flag one end. The sentiment was adhered to the card front with Fast Fuse Adhesive.
To complete my card, I used (for the first time!) some Rainstones that I had purchased from Papertrey Ink some time ago after watching a video tutorial that showed them being used on a card. I thought they looked gorgeous! I adhered some to my card front using a combination of Multi Medium Matte (for the small ones) and Zots Clear Adhesive Dots-Bling Tiny for the larger ones. I got my Zots at Michaels for $7.99 for 325. They work really great! I think I may try them for sequins or other tiny embellishments in the future.
I did not embellish the inside of my card but may do so before giving it out for Easter. Thanks for checking out my post today!
